A Guide for Assessing the Readiness
to provide consultations
for Feng Shui in the Landscape,
and to make Public Presentations

The following questions have been formulated to help you assess your breadth of knowledge of the landscape world of Black Sect Feng Shui. It is a different, more organic world than the Feng Shui of houses, and practice in this arena requires a perspective and knowing that embraces both the differences and the similarities between the two.
A landscape pattern as referenced in the following pages, is a specific situation or design detail which requires adjustment, for instance a narrow path to the front door, a tree blocking the front door, or an inauspicious lot shape.
- Where are the original Feng Shui patterns rooted?
- If there is a problem with the youngest son, where would you make an adjustment in the garden, and what are three different wags you could make that adjustment?
- If you had a cute little wagon, where would you place it outside as an adjustment, and what life situation could it strengthen?
- Dandelions are generally understood in our culture as weeds, unwanted, and are often eradicated with chemicals. What perspective does Black Sect Feng Shui bring regarding the Dandelion, and what are four transcendental wags it could be used as an asset in a landscape?
- Name ten different wags the pattern of struggle can show up in a landscape.
- Name ten different wags financial difficulty can show up in the landscape or siting of a house, that does not include the presence of water.
- How does bamboo ch’i and porcupine ch’i show up in a landscape?
- Name three different patterns of water which can be associated with money problems.
- What water pattern is associated with skin and lung problems?
- What water pattern is associated with career difficulties?
- What two water patterns are associated with miscarriage?
- What water pattern is associated with arthritis and rheumatism?
- What landscape pattern is associated with premature death? Litigation? Bankruptcy? Poverty? Lonliness?
- What patterns can indicate strife between neighbors?
- What plant may be associated with infant mortality if placed in the Children or Family gua?
- What tree shape is best suited to strengthen Fame?
- What two types of trees and their specific placements would indicate a partner slipping away?
- What tree and its placement can indicate trouble with alcoholism?
- What tree condition can indicate trouble in relationship?
- What is the cure for a cleaver-shaped lot?
- What is the difference between a berm that looks like a grave, and one that does not? (A berm is a linear landform that is often used for screening) What is the cure for a landform that looks like a grave?
- How do you adjust a missing piece of a lot when it is not possible to physically anchor the corner? (For instance when the missing corner happens to be located in your neighbor’s driveway, or is in the middle of a river?)
- What does Professor Lin recommend as an adjustment for a neighborhood or community that has been wiped out by a natural disaster?
- What is the assessment of a metal house located in a fire landscape, and what would be a suitable cure?
- What landscape adjustment Is would you recommend to a client with Bamboo Chi?
- What would your response be to a client who asked you what flower colors to use in their garden, who lived on top of an exposed hilltop with steep slopes on all sides?
- What would be your response to a client who asked you where they should hang a wind chime?
- What would your response be to a homeowner who approached you with a request for a new Feng Shui landscape design or the re-design of an old one?
- If you are involved with the design of a new landscape, would you recommend curving, meandering pathways for a very formal, French or Italian home?
- What are the three most important points about Feng Shui in the landscape that you would teach in an introductory presentation?
- What graphic aids would you consider using for a presentation of Feng Shui in the landscape?
- Can you name all the unbalanced patterns of Feng Shul in your own garden and neighborhood and the associated adjustments for each one? Could you bring your experience of observation in these areas to share directly with your audience?
- Would you be able to share three teaching stories that help to illustrate principles of how Feng Shui works in the landscape?
