PRACTICAL USES OF DIVINATION IN OUR FENG SHUI PRACTICE

How do I begin to explain the importance of divination as a powerful tool for the Black Sect practitioner? Perhaps with what divination is not. As I see it, none of the following dictionary definitions are helpful.

• “The art of trying to foretell the future”
• “A successful or clever guess”
• “To conjecture with supernatural aid”
• “A feeling of foreboding about something that is going to happen”

Each one misses the point, and is even misleading. From my experience, divination is a method to reveal the deeper layers of the present moment. As the process unfolds, the moment begins to show its underlying patterns. As the patterns appear, tendencies appear. The interpretive process then addresses these tendencies and the potential of the moment. The future is not the focus.

With the focus on the present, appropriate action is possible. That is the gift of our divination methods. We can help people make choices and flow with events at any given moment. Their choices to act will be inspired by the present field of awareness. It is the skill of the diviner that will expand this field and offer insights that rest beyond our everyday thoughts.

The class will include the following divinations:

1. Preparation for Throwing Coins – Professor Lin’s Coin Method

The strength of this divination is to suggest tendencies and potential developments. It will immerse you in the roots of our tradition – the I Ching.

2. Calculation on Fingers

This is an ancient Taoist divination that comes to us as a method of Chinese folklore. It is the most precise method of divination I have encountered, and I use it often to answer questions such as, “What might I expect if I take this job?”

3. Plum Flower Mind I Ching – Simplified Later Heaven Method

This method helps us to understand that curious sense that an event in our life has a deeper meaning.

4. Divination by Yarrow Sticks

This method will refine your ability to interpret clues. It, too, comes to us from Chinese folklore. You will need 50 Yarrow Sticks (or you can improvise with sticks of bamboo, chopsticks or BBQ sticks.)

5. During every class I will offer a simple method to see beyond the veils – methods rooted in Professor’s most basic teachings.

Our emphasis during this class will be to learn the skills. It will be your spiritual cultivation that insures your precision and success. Practice will further enhance this cultivation and strengthen your ability to offer wise counsel.
