Let’s go back to the Fall of 2001 and these words from Professor as I chronicled his answers to a question about the destruction of the ancient Buddha statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

“From the BTB perspective, the destruction, in March, of the two massive ancient Buddha statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan by the Taliban, was very significant to the rise of the terrorist element there. The country lost the protection of the deity, and the growth of terrorism was left unchecked.”

The Taliban invoked Islam to justify the destruction, an act that was condemned by a host of Muslim clerics and theologians from Egypt to Pakistan. Some called it an act of “cultural genocide against humanity.”

Exactly Professor’s point, I think.

When I saw this today, I was thrilled. Thank you to my New York friend for sending this on to me.
