Our relationship to home is intimate, essential and powerful. When it feels good, something is right there, something is working. That something is spirit. It speaks to us in the language of light and line, encouraging us to see the patterns we have woven in our homes and in our lives.

Some patterns help us come to life; others make it difficult. As we begin to play with the elements of pattern we begin a conversation with the spirit of place. What unfolds is a gentle appreciation of the power spirit can generate in form. It is the power of sensibility and the gift of knowledge. It is the beginning of placemaking that is richly human.

As a placemaker, I contribute to our awareness of place. I listen and respond to the relationships among its elements. As I move the elements the relationships change, and the places of our making begin to inspire use. They allow room for more and more to happen there. They hold our memories and celebrate our successes. They encourage us to be most right, most just, most sad, most hilarious. They offer comfort. They open our eyes to possibility. They extend a welcome and a sense of belonging to all who enter. They tell our stories.

Your stories will change, and the universe will hear them. That’s the power of the Art of Placement.
