Lovingly dubbed the Oyster House by its owners, this Spanish home in Sierra de Bernia was designed to maximise the family’s wishes for privacy and security. This prompted architect Ana Lozano Portillo to visualise the Oyster House as a circular structure with stone wall exteriors and a minimum amount of windows looking in. The interiors, on the contrary, tell another story. The living and private spaces converge around an interior courtyard, which is fitted with a pool and a small garden. The roof was modulated to favour direct sunlight during winter, and protect the family from its strong rays during the summertime. From the living room area are tranquil and undisturbed views of this exterior space through large glass windows. The resulting habitat hit all the client’s wishes and more, forming an introverted home whose playful and welcoming charms win you over once you walk through the door.
